Let me start this article by stating “I AM A ROMAN CATHOLIC”. Yes I am a catholic, both my parents where and in fact I came from a pious family where in we follow the norms of the church. I grow up attending mass on Sundays and during special days like Birthdays, Christmas, New Year and even Death Anniversaries of love ones. I also go to church during other occasions like mama Mary’s Fiestas and other saint’s fiestas. I say graces before and after meal. I make the sign of the cross before I do something. I may not pray the holy rosary often but I know how to pray it and even all the prayers included in it I know.

I have observed something in the church that I go today but it is just today that I have decided to write something about the observation since it is a bit related with the gospel for today.

I have posted below the full gospel of today:

Gospel, Mark 1:14-20

14 After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from God saying,

15 ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.’

16 As he was walking along by the Lake of Galilee he saw Simon and Simon’s brother Andrew casting a net in the lake — for they were fishermen.

17 And Jesus said to them, ‘Come after me and I will make you into fishers of people.’

18 And at once they left their nets and followed him.

19 Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in their boat, mending the nets.

20 At once he called them and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, they went after him.

Here is what I have learned from the homily of the priest:

The priest emphasizes this question and asked even like more than 5 times “Did Christ know Peter will deny him?“Did Christ know that Judas Escariot will betray him, but how come God has chooses them to be his apostles?” All of us are not worthy to be followers of Jesus because we are sinners but how come He called us to follow Him? This was what the priest said over and over and over. Until the priest told us the answer is so simple “Jesus chose Peter, Judas Escariot and the other apostles because He trust them, God trust us all that we can change despite of the sins we committed” and the priest continue “Jesus do not see the bad side of human, instead he sees the goodness within us, so as catholic we must like be Jesus that we must TRUST other people and see the goodness of our neighbours”.

Nice homely isn’t it but this is what I receive during offertory.

This is where you place your offerings. My question is why is it padlocked? Did just the priest tell us to TRUST each other? How come they do not trust there parishioners and they have to place a locked in this thing? Did just the church tell us to see the goodness of men? Is this a symbol of seeing goodness to others? I so doubt it.

I am neither against the church nor the teachings of the church. My faith has not even lessen because of this incident, what I believe is it is what you do to others that will count the most, all I wanted for them is to:

DO WHAT THEY PREACH
