Calamay is a sticky sweet delicacy popular in the province of Bohol especially in the town of Jagna in which I am proud to say my homeland.

Upon hearing that my hometown will celebrate the ever first Jagna Calamay Festival, I was overjoyed. At last this is it, a Festival we can call our own.

To celebrate the calamay as part of Jagnaanons way of life, the very 1st Jagna Calamay Festival was launched. This was made possible by the Jagna Local Governement Unit and the original calamay makers of Can-Upao, Business and Civil Society Organization.

It will be a 3 day celebration from April 28 to 30, 2015. So its not yet late to visit and join in the upcoming activities.

I was not exactly at the event but thank you social media and to my friends that keeps me on the loop. A lot of things happen today. There where booths that offer Jagna products and of course calamay, there was a motorcade, and calamay cooking demo.

There where also contests; Best Calamay-decorated Pedicab, Best Balanced Habal-habal with calamay, and Calamay Kite Flying contest.

There will be free tasting of calamay throughout the festivity so make sure to drink your diabetes medications or to be safe do not overeat the sweet calamay.

Day 2 activities include balak and folk dance contest in the day and the awaited Miss Jagna Festival 2015 to be held at Colegio De La Medalla Milagrosa quadrangle.

April 30, 2015
The third day will be the parade of the Festival Queen and winners. A festivity won’t be complete without a party, so ready yourself for a street party during the third night.

If ever you happen to visit Bohol, don’t forget to buy a calamay and choose the original calamay from Jagna Bohol. You can choose plain calamay, calamay with peanuts, and ube calamay my favorite.
