The beauty when you travel in Northern Luzon is that you can just ride a bus anywhere you wanted to go. People who visit Ilocos always end up visiting the Mountain Province, Ifugao Province, and of course Benguet.

Vigan to Sagada via Tagudin Cervantes Road

A (Vigan) – B (Tagudin) – C (Cervantes) – D (Abatan, Bauko) – E (Bontoc) – F (Sagada)

What to Expect:

  • This route is not a tourist route so expect to ride with locals. Riding with locals means sitting next to a person carrying chickens, basket full of vegetables, half sack of rice, box full of local goods to be delivered to another town.
  • Breathe taking view. You can see mountains and lots of them.
  • You will be traveling uphill.
  • The Tagudin Cervantes road is the mini great wall of China in the Philippines.

I highly encourage backpackers or all travelers to try the Tagudin – Cervantes route to Sagada. The beautiful serene view allows you to meditate. Experiencing this transport will give you awareness of the life of the locals living in this remote part of the Philippines.

nice pictures..looks like pack bags and go for a holiday.

Thanks for the info. We will go to Vigan on the third week of May. This will be probably my guide 😉

EEnjoy Vigan Danica. I am planning to visit again with the family.

Nice itinerary. Heard a lot of good stuff about that place. How cold is there during the summer?

I am not sure how cold but it is pretty cold 🙂

Sagada via Cervantes is an adventure in itself. Breathtaking zigzag and mountain views! 🙂

It is an adventure and I highly recommend this to all travelers from Ilocos who wanted to visit Sagada or Banaue.

is it safe to travel with our own car (mini crossover)?

Hi Rom
The road is safe. I am not familiar with cars but the whole time you will be ascending.

What a lovely travelling site you have.

Looks like such an intriguing journey! Great post

Thank you sa info…will be travelling in a group of 7 by private car on jan 2 to 5 2018 from manila. As early as this already figuring out the shortest way possible. Our route manila-vigan-sagada-banaue-manila…is 4 days truly enough to cover the said destinations…PLS HELP…thank you…

Hi Jocelyn
Yes you can cover the places in 4 days but it would be a very tight schedule.
Basically 1 day on each location.

I traveled this road 3 times by now. The first time from Vigan to Sagada, twice in the other direction from Sagada to Vigan. Albei it is an 6+ hours drive by private car you should calculate more time as there are many places to stop and enjoy the view.
While in Abatan go to the market and buy fresh vegetables. You hardly won’t get it elsewhere so fresh and so cheap.
However I would not recommend the route during the rainy days. Even in Summer you pass a lot of landslides covering half of the street.
Also you can drive for Kilometers without encounter another vehicle, neither is the telephone signal available and definitely no internet. So make sure your car is in good condition.

Hi Heinz
Wow, thank you for the additional tip. I love that route and I hope to traverse it again in the future.

been there at cervantes quirino road. A VERY TOUGH ROAD TO DRIVE. pero magaganda din ang view kaso medyo mainit na.

That was the shortest way google gave us. (starting from sagada to vigan)…

This helps a lot on our upcoming travel. Thank you!
