You have been to Bohol and wanted to come back, but aside from the beach, you have nothing else to do. Or you wanted to visit Bohol but feels like having atypical tour. How about taking the unusual Bohol tour in the southeastern part of the island. You can trek at The Alicia Panoramic Park or visit Candijay, Bohol a 4th class municipality and is 92km. away from Tagbilaran City.
A simple town with extravagant natural beauty is what I can say about Candijay. Did you know that the most picturesque rice terraces in Bohol can be found in Cadpdapan, Candijay, Bohol. I will give more details so read along.

How to get to Candijay
- From Tagbilaran City, go to Dao Terminal and look for a bus or van en route to Candijay, Bohol.
- By bus fare is 80 pesos.
- By van fare is 130 pesos.
- Tell the driver that you will disembark at Lungsod Daan, Candijay Market.
- Habalhabal tour rate ranges from 180-200 pesos per person.
What to Do and View in Candijay
There are several things you can do in Candijay, like swim in the deep, blue, and cold Canawa Spring, be amaze with the beautiful Cadapdapan rice terraces, and enjoy the mighty Can-umantad waterfalls.
Canawa Spring
Canawa Spring is located in barangay Canawa, Candijay, Bohol. The name “Canawa” is coined from the term “kawa” a famous cauldron or pan shape cooking tool of the Bisaya.
The Canawa Spring is a deep blue water cold spring in the middle of big trees. Like the Enchanted River of Surigao, several divers both Filipino and foreign tries to measure the depth of the spring but has failed. For safety measures, installed are ropes that run across the spring. So, if you are not a good swimmer then you can still enjoy.
A pool is also available and the water is from the spring. This is to make sure that everyone has its room for swimming. Entrance Fee is 10 pesos and cottage rental is 100 pesos.
Can-Umantad Falls
Be hold the tallest waterfalls in Bohol – The Can-umantad Falls located in Cadapdapan, Candijay Bohol. The grand waterfalls stand 60 ft. tall. The name Can-umantad means “kan-uman/kaunuman” or six times.
Going to the falls has two ways, one a short cut from Canawa Spring and another the main entrance which is popularly known as Private, for the property is private and you have to pay an entrance fee of 20 pesos per person and a parking fee for 10 pesos per motorbike/habalhabal and 20 pesos for 4 wheel vehicle. I recommend taking the private route because it is where you can view the serene rice terraces. Take note that if you enter through private you have to descent for few meters with around 80 plus concrete stairs.
The bliss-pool at the bottom of the falls is not deep enough for diving. But you can take a walk about 20 meters where you can find the connecting cascade and diving is available.
Cadapdapan Rice Terraces
One famous tourist attraction in the Philipines is the UNESCO heritage rice terraces in the Mountain Province of Luzon. In Bohol, rice terraces are not an unfamiliar sight. There are rice terraces in the towns of Lila, Dimiao, Sierra Bullones, Jagna, and Candijay each having a unique look.
It’s almost harvest time when we visited Cadapdapan rice terraces and the golden color of the rice fields has enhanced its beauty. I am captivated by the beauty of the rice fields and enjoyed walking around the fields (no harm on the rice paddies while doing this activity 🙂).
I have not seen any farmer on that day, but if I did I would thank them for all the sacrifices they have made just to bring food on every family’s table.
Mangrove and Sandbar
Another destination to visit is Candijay’s Mangrove and Sandbar. Unluckily we do not have time to visit the place for we have appointments in the afternoon. For more information about this attraction, you can visit Candijay LGU website.
There are more beautiful spots in the eastern and southeastern part of Bohol. There is Jagna where you can find Bohol’s Highest Peak, Rice Terraces, and Centennial Tree. To end the tour, visit Anda, Bohol, a nearby town where you can enjoy the beautiful white sand beach and cave pools.
