I am one blessed person able to have a chance going on a 5 day land trip Manila to Cebu. Part of the itinerary is visiting an island in Northern Samar that is new to me, wait  I only knew few major islands in the country how much more little islands in each region. Well this is the reason why I love to travel to at least be geographically nourished of my dear Philippines, mind you my geography is not as healthy as my body looks.

Where is Biri?

Biri is a municipality in the province of Northern Samar in the Philippines. It consists of several islands and is subdivided into eight barangays. The largest island where the municipal hall, police station and hospital is located is the Biri Island.

Going to Biri you can view this big statue of the Madonna saving a half sunken sailor

Biri Island

The island is part of the 18-piece Balicuatro Group of Islands that is spotted in the dangerous space between San Bernardino Strait and the Pacific Ocean, and Samar and Luzon particulrly the Bicol peninsula. The local means of livelihood is fishing.

The Legend of Biri Island

Biri is taken from a maiden name Berbinota. She is a beautiful lady ruling the island. She brought a golden boat that also contains golden cars in the island making her ruler in the island as well as the famous Biri Rock Formations in which I will show photos later in this article.

There are now available resorts too to name a few there is the Biri Island Resort and Villa Amor Resort. Nice Zel! starring ko hehe.

Of course ikaw pa 🙂

It’s quite hard to go to Biri Island but seeing the rock formation must really be worth all the travel.

The rock formations are amazing! We do have a very wonderful nature!

I hope I could visit Samar someday. Some of my relatives live there so I could just stay in their home. 🙂

Nice! I love to visit Samar next year 🙂

When I first heard of the Biri Rock Formation, I knew I had to visit this soon. And that wanting became stronger upon seeing your photos. Reallly nice place! <3

I lived there for six months with my wife’s family (Manolito Quiling). It was a grand experience! My buddy Rick at the Biri resort and I enjoyed many a beautiful sunset with a cold beer at The “Buena Vista Tavern’. Just a great retreat from the busy world.

Hi Mary,
Yes, all rates are applicable as of the posting of this comment. 🙂
I highly recommend that you visit the Island. One of the hidden gems of the Philippines :).
I am glad that I have touched you through my blog. This is the reason why I keep on writing, to inspire other’s.

Hi,

Would you know other routes from manil to northern samar? PAL express tickets are too expensive. Our group wants to go there. Can 3 days be enough for northern samar tour alone?

Thanks so much. ????

Hi Shiela
From where is your group coming?

Hello SheilA! My friends and I had just been to Catarman and Biri (Northern Samar).

3 days is not enough if it includes travel time.

Let me share with you the itinerary we had lately.
April 26 Saturday 7pm departed Manila to Legazpi City
April 27 Sunday 9am departed Legazpi city to Matnog, Sorsogon; Matnog to Allen; Allen to Catarman – stayed overnight (Catarman)
April 28 Monday off to Lavezares, Northern Samar; took pumpboat to Biri Island. Registered at Biri Municipal hall; to rock formations; stayed Overnight at Villa Amor.
April 29 Tuesday returned to Lavezares, proceeded to Calbayog City; took Cokaliong’s ship to Cebu City.

From Cebu City you can take a flight back to Manila.

The expenses published by the blogger are prevailing.

Biri Rock Formations are one of a kind. Must see by adventurers.

Biri is just awesome! Their rock formations will make you feel like you’re in Mars haha. Here’s the guide that I followed when I went to Biri last year:
http://ucandostuff.ph/Guide-1727-How%20to%20get%20to%20the%20Biri%20rock%20formations.aspx

Very helpful guide! I’m just wondering how to get back in Manila by land. Hmmmm… any tips? Thank you!

You have two options.
First, from Biri to Lavezares (via motor boat) then Lavezares to Allen (via tricycle). From Allen to Matnog Sorsogon (two options, (much better) you can ride a bus here straight to cubao or pasay terminal destination (select a bus, buy a ferry ticket) OR you can ride a RORO ferry boat to matnog then at matnog ride a bus to manila).

Second, the fast and cheapest way, depending on boat trip schedule, from Biri to Matnog boat ride (more or less two hours trip). Then from Matnog to Manila (Cubao/Pasay Bus) .

pogi mo! 🙂
